To: Ug and TPg Students and Staff at HKUMed

Dear Students,

Following the below announcement from the University, I am writing to provide updates on the teaching and learning arrangements for undergraduate (Ug) and taught postgraduate (TPg) programmes in the Medical Faculty:

Professional undergraduate degrees:

  1. Professional degree programmes are granted flexibility in modifying the arrangement as and when appropriate.
  2. The Faculty aims to achieve an appropriate balance between online teaching and f2f teaching as required by the individual curricula.
  3. Online teaching is the default mode of delivery for most classes in Semester 1, except for some practical and clinical skills sessions which must be conducted f2f and which will be scheduled towards the mid/end of the semester, where possible. Please refer to the announcements made by the Faculty or the respective
  4. Schools/Departments for detail arrangements.
  5. For clinical teaching in various programmes:
    • MBBS Clinical Foundation Block, Junior Clerkship and Specialty Clerkship have been ongoing in e-learning format. The arrangement will continue until student clinical attachment at Hospital Authority (HA) hospitals resumes. The Faculty has been in active dialogue with the HA on the resumption of clinical teaching and the latest development is that there is possibility for resuming clinical teaching within HA in gradual phases on 14 September 2020, subject to further review and close monitoring of the COVID-19 situation. When the arrangement is confirmed, the Faculty will reach out to MBBS students to advise the details.
    • BNurs(full-time) clinical practicum at HA hospitals is planned to resume in 2020/21. The School of Nursing will reach out to nursing students to announce the details in due course.
    • BChinMed Clinical Clerkship in Shanghai will be conducted from end September 2020 to end April 2021. Please refer to the announcement of the School of Chinese Medicine for details.
    • BPharm Clerkship is targeted to resume in hospitals, the community and the industry on 14 September 2020 with the agreement of HA.
