The Faculty receives financial support for research activities from various sources in different forms. There are different research grants, conference grants, and fellowships offered by the University and other funding agencies, as well as donations made by professional and industrial bodies and individual benefactors. The Faculty has continued to achieve outstanding results in various external competitive grants including General Research Grants (GRF) exercise of the Research Grants Council and Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) of the Food and Health Bureau, having secured over HK$535 million in 2019.

HKUMed Research Fellowship Scheme for Clinical Academics
In 2020, the LKS Faculty of Medicine established the “HKUMed Research Fellowship Scheme for Clinical Academics” to provide opportunities for clinical academic staff to be relieved of all teaching, clinical and administrative duties to conduct full-time research at the Faculty for a period of six months to one year. One award will be made each year.
HKUMed School of Clinical Medicine - Clinical Research Fellowship Scheme
The Clinical Research Fellowship Scheme was launched in 2020 to encourage Hospital Authority (HA) doctors to take part in research work at their early career stage and encourage a research culture within the clinical setting. It provides opportunities for HA doctors to engage in a basic science or clinical research project for a period of six months to one year under an attachment programme at the School of Clinical Medicine.
