Updates on the arrangements of clinical teaching in HA hospitals

To: MBBS Students of Specialty Clerkship, Junior Clerkship and Clinical Foundation Block

Dear Students,

I am pleased to inform you that the HA has agreed to resume clinical attachment of medical students in HA hospitals on 14 September 2020.

Please follow the existing timetable and attend scheduled sessions accordingly. Clinical departments will work out the operational details and update you by end of this week.

Kindly note the following for attending clinical classes:

  • Infection control measures implemented in July 2020 shall remain in force (please refer to email announcement dated 23 June 2020).
  • Students must wear surgical masks at all times within HA hospital compound.
  • You are advised to change your surgical masks each time when you leave the clinical areas, so please always bring along spare surgical masks.

Surgical masks:

  • As there is presently a stable supply of surgical masks in Hong Kong at a reasonable price level, following the University’s policy the Faculty will not supply surgical masks for students to attend classes.
  • However, you are advised to stock up a good supply in case prices go up later.
  • Per HA’s practice, students should wear at least Level 1 surgical masks for the purpose of accessing clinical areas.

Should you have any questions regarding the teaching and learning arrangements, please contact Ms Sonia Lee (sonialee@hku.hk / 3917 9347) or Mr Ryan Yeung (tlyeung5@hku.hk / 3917 9938) of the Faculty Office.

If you wish to have a chat about any issues you are experiencing, be it personal, academic, or social, our counsellors are always ready to listen to you (medwell@hku.hk / 3917 9075).

Please stay tuned for updates, and take good care of yourselves.

Yours sincerely,

Professor Gilberto Leung

Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning)
