Dr Huang Yuanhua （黃淵華）, Assistant Professor of School of Biomedical Sciences; Dr Eric Wan Yuk-fai （尹旭輝）, Assistant Professor of the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, School of Clinical Medicine and the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy; and Dr Wang Weiping （汪衛平）, Assistant Professor of Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy & Dr. Li Dak-Sum Research Centre were awarded the prestigious Excellent Young Scientists Fund 2022 (Hong Kong and Macau) in recognition of their outstanding achievements in scientific research.

Professor Irene Ng Oi-Lin（吳呂愛蓮）, Director of State Key Laboratory of Liver Research (HKU) and Chair of Pathology was named among Top 1,000 Female Scientists in the World and ranked No. 8 nationally by Research.com, a leading academic platform for researchers.

Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee （陳肇始）, Professor of School of Nursing was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star 2022 in recognition of her distinguished service to the Hong Kong Government and the wider community. Professor Chan was also appointed as Justice of the Peace.

Professor Ivan Hung Fan-ngai （孔繁毅）, Ru Chien & Helen Lieh Professor in Health Sciences Pedagogy and Clinical Professor of the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine; Professor Chak-sing Lau （劉澤星）, Daniel C K Yu Professor and Chair of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine; and Professor Lau Yu-lung （劉宇隆）, Chair Professor of Paediatrics, Doris Zimmern Professor in Community Child Health, Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, School for Clinical Medicine were awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star 2022.

Professor Michael Huen Shing-yan （禤承恩）, Assistant Dean (Innovation and Technology) of the Faculty and Associate Director (Research and Innovation) of the School of Biomedical Sciences was invited to co-chair the Gordon Research Conference - Genomic Instability (2022), an event designed to address both the fundamental mechanisms and translational impact of the cellular pathways that maintain genome stability.

Dr Gary Lau Kui-kai （劉巨基）, Clinical Assistant Professor of Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine; Dr Joshua Ho Wing-kei （何永基）, Associate Professor of the School of Biomedical Sciences and his PhD student, Mr Gordon Qian, and other members received the Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award, Hypertension Scientific Sessions 2022 presented by the American Heart Association.

Dr Gary Lau also received the American Heart Association Award for Patient-Oriented or Clinical Research in Hypertension.

Dr Jasper Chan Fuk-woo （陳福和）, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, School of Clinical Medicine, was selected as a Fellow of Infectious Diseases Society of America.
Dr Edmond Choi Pui-hang （蔡沛恒）, Assistant Professor of the School of Nursing was selected 2022 Class of Fellow by the American Academy of Nursing.

The project entitled ‘Community-Based Smoking Cessation Program’ by Dr Kelvin Wang Man-ping（王文炳）, Associate Professor of the School of Nursing was named Academy Edge Runner by the American Academy of Nursing for the project’s significant achievements made through its implementation and its impact on health.

The model proposed by the project was recognized as one that ‘continues to improve the response to the smoking epidemic by establishing a research and practice platform that bolsters smoking cessation services with communities and individuals in mind’.

Dr Michael Cheung Ka-shing （張嘉盛）, Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, received the Travel Grant Award granted at the United European Gastroenterology (UEG) Week.
Dr Rio Ryohichi Sugimura（杉村竜一）, Assistant Professor of the School of Biomedical Sciences’ submission ‘Give Them Vasculature and Immune Cells – How to Fill the Gap of Organoids’ was selected as winner of the Young Investigator Award presented by Cells Tissues Organs.
Dr Jason Cheung Pui-yin（鍾培言）, Chairperson of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine, Dr Prudence Cheung Wing-hang （張穎恒）, Research Assistant Professor and Lester Wong （黃保鈞）, PhD students of the same department received the Best Clinical Paper – First Prize at the AO Spine Asia Pacific East Asia Conference 2022.

Dr Jason Cheung Pui-yin （鍾培言）, Chairperson of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine won the Best Paper Award (Clinical Research) granted by the Asia Pacific Spine Society (APSS) Annual Meeting 2022.

Dr Cheung and team were also received the Applied Human Factors and Ergomomics (AHFE) 2022 Best Paper Award (Human Factors and Ergonomics in Healthcare and Medical Device) presented by the AHFE 2022 International Conference.

HKU-SZH（港大深圳醫院） won the Runner-up (Excellence Award Winner) of the Infection Control Excellence Award at the Asian Hospital Management Awards 2022.
Dr Kenny Kwan Yat-hong （關日康）, Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine, received The APSS-Asian Spine Journal Best Clinical Research Award and The APSS Congress Best Basic Science Award at the APSS Annual Meeting 2022 with Live Operative Surgical Course.

Dr Herbert Kwok Wang-chun （郭宏駿）, Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 8th Asia Pacific Region Conference (APRC) of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.

Dr Vivian Shuai Huiping （帥惠萍）, Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Microbiology, School of Clinical Medicine, was selected as one of the Future Female Scientists 2021 by China Association for Science and Technology.

Professor Spring Kong Feng-ming （孔鳳鳴）, Clinical Professor of the Department of Clinical Oncology, School of Clinical Medicine was selected by the ‘STAR Working Group’ as Chairperson for Oncology Guideline Task in China.

Professor Anne Lee Wing-mui （李詠梅）, Deputy Hospital Chief Executive (Clinical and Educational Services) of HKU-SZH and Chief of Service, Center of Clinical Oncology of HKU-SZH and team’s research entitled ‘International Recommendations on Reirradiation by Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy for Locally Recurrent Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma’ was ranked top 20% by the 2021 STAR Guideline (Oncology) of China.

Professor Yiu Kai-hang （姚啟恒）, Clinical Professor of the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine was selected as Winner of the East Star Award at the 2022 Oriental Congress of Cardiology.

Professor Yiu was also named Social Mentor by the Southern University of Science and Technology and was selected Chairman of the Guangdong Elder Healthcare Association – Coronary Heart Disease Precision Treatment and Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional Committee.

The Oncology Medical Center of HKU-SZH （香港大學深圳醫院腫瘤醫學中心）was granted approval to establish the Shenzhen Key Lab for Translational Research on Recurrent/Metastatic cancer and Personalized Oncology.

Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee（陳肇始）, Professor of the School of Nursing, was conferred as an Honorary Fellow by the College of Health Service Executive.

The following research projects were awarded Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) 2022/23 (Twelfth Round):

  • ‘Characterization of Tumor Microenvironment in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma’ co-ordinated by Professor Guan Xinyuan （關新元）, Chair Professor and Sophie Y M Chan Professor in Cancer Research of the Department of Clinical Oncology, School of Clinical Medicine.
  • ‘Delineating and Translating the Mechanistic Determinants to Improve the Clinical Management of Liver Cancer’ co-ordinated by Professor Irene Ng Oi-lin （吳呂愛蓮）, Chair Professor of Pathology and Loke Yew Professor in Pathology, Department of Pathology, School of Clinical Medicine.

Professor Yiu Kai-hang （姚啟恒）, Clinical Professor of the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine was invited as speaker of the Hong Kong Heart Foundation Lecture at the 30th Annual Scientific Congress (ASC), Hong Kong College of Cardiology.

Dr Will Chan Yap-hang （陳熠恒）, Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine won the Best Cardiovascular Medicine Paper Award at the same event.

Dr Herbert Kwok Wang-chun （郭宏駿）, Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine received the Research Grant Award presented by The Hong Kong Lung Foundation and the Young Investigator Research Grant awarded by the Hong Kong College of Physicians.
Professor Michael Huen Shing-yan （禤承恩）, Assistant Dean (Innovation and Technology) of the Faculty and Associate Director (Research and Innovation) of the School of Biomedical Sciences was conferred the Jessie Ho Professorship in Neuroscience.

Professor Karen Lam Siu-ling （林小玲）, Rosie TT Young Chair in Endocrinology & Metabolism and Chair Professor in Medicine, Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine was awarded Doctor of Science by the University of Hong Kong.

Dr Stephanie Ma Kwai-yee （馬桂宜）, Associate Professor and Associate Director (Knowledge Exchange and Global) of the School of Biomedical Sciences was appointed Member of Faculty Higher Degree Committee by the University of Hong Kong.

Dr Kelvin Wang Man-ping（王文炳）Dr, Associate Professor of the School of Nursing and team received the Faculty Knowledge Exchange (KE) Award 2022 for Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine by the Knowledge Exchange Office of HKU in June 2022.
